Developing an Model of Academic Resilience Based on Basic Psychological Needs with the Mediation of Academic Self-Concept in First-Grade High School Students

Abstract

Objective: Academic resilience is one of the types of resilience that is related to the field of academic progress in educational psychology. The purpose of this research was to investigate the Developing a Model of Academic Resilience Based on Basic Psychological Needs with the Mediation of Academic Self-Concept in First-Grade High School Students.
Method: The research method (was) descriptive and correlational. The statistical population of this research included all the students of the first secondary level of Arjan region in the academic year of 1402-1401. The subjects were selected through cluster random sampling. There were 325 students, who answered Samuels' academic resilience questionnaire, Deci and Ryan's basic psychological needs questionnaire, and Chen's academic self-concept questionnaire. (Descriptive statistics and structural equation model method were used to summarize and describe the data using SPSS 27 and AMOS 26 softwares.).
Results: The findings of the research showed that basic psychological needs, including the need for autonomy, the need for competence, and the need for communication, had a positive and significant role in predicting students' academic resilience, and academic self-concept had a significant mediating role.
Conclusions: In general, according to the obtained information, it is possible to improve the academic resilience of students by paying attention to the basic psychological needs and academic self-concept.
