Abstract

One of the most significant issues of educational organizations is school effectiveness and the way of leading and managing them. With regard to the importance of leadership role in making the flexible and supportive structures for effectiveness, the purpose of this research is studying the structural pattern of the impact of principals’ distributed leadership style on school effectiveness with indicators of teachers’ job motivation and academic optimism.
This is a descriptive correlational study and its approach is quantitative. For this study, a sample including 480 teachers were selected among all secondary school teachers of Sanandaj city, that 375 questionnaires were filled and returned completely. The data gathering tools included four questionnaires with Likert’s five spectrum. According to the fact that for analysis of data, the structural equation modeling was used, hence the confirmatory factor has been investigated in all questionnaires that resulted in elimination of some questions and approved components entered to structural equations model as observed variables for measuring latent variables.
In studying psychometric features of research factors, the results of confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated that all dimensions of distributed leadership and effectiveness were confirmed. However one of the dimensions of academic optimism and two dimensions of motivation were deleted in the measurement model due to the weakness of indexes and covariance error. Also the results of structural equations showed that the structural model has a significant fitting and determines 0/79 percent of effectiveness variance of schools. The results showed the high importance of research variables in determining the school effectiveness. Also the results demonstrated that teacher’s job motivation and optimism have a high direct impact on school effectiveness, and distributed leadership has a meaningful relation with teacher’s motivation and optimism. Only the direct path of leadership has no meaning on effectiveness of schools. However; distributed leadership predicted school effectiveness indirectly and also by mediating variables (ρThe authors of the present study concluded that principals’ distributed leadership style is one of the necessary factors in developing the school effectiveness, due to its flexibility, ability to make organic structures in schools and developing communication and empowering the teachers. The findings of this study show the importance of considering the indirect impact of distributed leadership on school effectiveness according to the mediating variables.
