The purpose of this research was to provide a model for predicting academic achievement of distance education students based on parental academic involvement with the mediating role of task value, students' sense of belonging to the university, and academic effort. The study sample comprised 300 undergraduate students of Payame Noor University in Khoy Center in the academic year 2002-2013, who selected by stratified random sampling. The data collection tool was a questionnaire consisting of the task value subscale (Pintrich et al., 1991), sense of belonging (Wang, White, and Eccles, 2011), academic effort (Dupirat and Marin, 2005), and parental academic involvement subscale. Academic achievement also measured by inserting a question about students' academic averages through self-reporting. Advanced correlation schemes (path analysis) used for data analysis. The results of the research generally showed that the dimensions of emotional and behavioral academic engagement influence the relationship between parents' academic involvement and the academic achievement of distance education students. In such a way, the direct effect of parents' academic involvement on students' academic achievement did not confirmed, but parental academic involvement showed a positive indirect effect on academic achievement through the students' sense of belonging to the university, the value of the task, and academic effort. In addition, concerning the direct effect of research variables on academic achievement, the most positive effect related to academic effort. In addition, the value of the task showed the most positive direct effect on academic effort, and the parents' academic involvement showed the most direct effect on the value of the task. Overall, in this research, it showed that parental academic involvement has an indirect effect on the academic progress of distance education students.

This study investigated the mediating role of academic buoyancy in relationship Between mindfulness with happiness and academic achievement. Participants were 344 (164 male and 184 female) students in Shiraz University, selected by a random multi-stage cluster sampling method who completed the Academic Buoyancy Questionnaire (Hosseinchari & Dehghani, 1391), Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (Baer & et al., 2006), and Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (Hills & Argyle, 2002). Also, the total average score of students was considered an indicator of academic achievement. WARPPLS was used to test the model. The findings showed that mindfulness was positive and significant predictor of happiness and academic achievement. Mindfulness has a positive and significant relationship with academic buoyancy. Also confirmed the role of academic buoyancy as a mediator was also confirmed. Academic buoyancy has mediator role in relationship between mindfulness and happiness. But academic buoyancy showed a negative a mediator in the relationship between mindfulness and academic achievement. The results indicated that academic buoyancy has a higher role in predicting happiness than academic achievement.

In this research, the effectiveness of goal-setting strategies training designed based on goal-setting theory in the grade goals and academic achievement of middle school students has been investigated. To achieve this aim, 79 seventh-grade male students were selected by random cluster sampling and assigned to experimental and control groups. The Goal-setting strategies training package was developed on the basis of goal-setting theory by researchers and presented during 7 sessions to students and the tasks were done by them. Final grades of the first and second semesters were used for evaluating academic achievement and the grade goals set by students for the first and second semesters were used for assessing grade goal setting. The findings showed that the academic achievement of the experimental group increased in comparison with the control group. Whereas the grade goals of the students of the experimental group did not change, their grade goal errors decreased significantly which indicate the improvement and increased accuracy of educational goal-setting of students. Goal-setting strategies training can enhance academic performance and the quality of goal-setting.

The current study aimed to examine the mediating role of academic procrastination, academic stress and sleep quality on the causal relationship between social network addiction and academic achievement of the high school students. This research is a descriptive correlational study. Statistical population covered all the students in Urmia high schools. Study participants were 204 female and 156 male students who were selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected by using Turel and Serenko’social network addiction questionnaire (2012), Solomon and Rothblum’s academic procrastination questionnaire (1984), Sun, Dunne, Hou and Xu’s academic stress scale (2011), and Pittsburgh’s sleep quality scale (1989) and the mark average of previous term for measuring academic achievement. Data were analyzed by using Pearson correlation and structural equation modeling. Results showed that social network addiction has an indirect negative effect on academic achievement through creating academic procrastination, decreasing sleep quality and increasing academic stress. Increased use of social network increases procrastination among students and spending excessive amounts of time in these networks reduces quality of sleep that both of them, in turn, increase academic stress which leads to dropout.

The main objective of this study was to find out the role of student-level and teacher-level on academic achievement. Research population included students and teachers of Tehran’s vocational and technical schools. 10 regions from 5 Tehran’s educational districts and 2 schools from each region were selected, with a total of 906 third-grade students (girls and boys) from these schools and from 39 classes using multi-stage sampling. 123 teachers from the same classes and schools were also chosen for this study. Standard AMS and MSLQ questionnaires were used for academic motivation and academic engagement, respectively, as well as researcher-made questionnaires for knowledge and professional skills of teachers and professional- contextual characteristics questionnair, peer-assisted learning and quality of education. Reliability and validity of the questionnaires were assessed using Cronbach's alpha coefficient, content and construct validity (exploratory factor analysis). Academic achievement was calculated using the average of three grades including GPA (grade point average) of the previous year, GPA of three core courses and GPA of practical courses. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation matrix, confirmatory factor analysis, and multi-level analysis. Results of multilevel analysis showed the average academic achievement of students in different classes (i.e. different teachers) was significantly different. In addition, the effect of experience, gender and education level of teachers on students’ academic achievement were insignificant. However, there was a positive and significant effect of quality of education on the academic achievement. At the whole classroom model, 7.27%, and 22.28% (nearly30%) of the variance for academic achievement were related to the student-level and teacher-level, respectively. Findings of the research show the importance of teacher level factors -at higher level- influencing other variables in predicting academic. achievement.

The aim of the present study was to examine the casual relationship of work hope and academic achievement with mediating role of academic motivation among undergraduate unemployed students. Three hundred and ten (190 males, 120 females) unemployed students were selected by cluster sampling from students of Islamic Azad University, Azadshar branch. The used research instruments in this study were Work Hope Scale (WHS, Juntunen & Wettersten, 2006) and Academic Motivation Scale (AMS, Vallerand, et al, 1992). Academic achievement of the students was measured by their grade-point average. The data were analyzed by using correlation coefficient and path analysis. The results indicated that work hope had indirect effects on academic achievement through academic motivation. There was a significant positive relationship between, academic motivation and academic achievement. Extrinsic motivation had indirect effects on academic achievement. Amotivation and intrinsic motivation had direct effects on academic achievement. The causal model about relationship between work hope and academic achievement mediated by academic motivation was confirmed.
